The project group works on several site-specific installations for different architectural spaces.

Artistic installation for NYUAD’s Experimental Research Building

In a first step basic elements of the architectural space are analysed to understand its unique characteristics. Implied facts like location, structure, materiality, layout and geometry, transition, hierarchy, light conditions etc. are taken into consideration, but also soft facts like its actual and future use, its aura, and its potential to host installations. The group researches the relationship of how architecture can be the frame for installations and how a space will potentially contribute to shape the form and format of an installation. In a second step the focus is on the development and integration of content related technologies.

The interest is on the correlation of a strong narrative character to be compiled with a highly technological character to create a performative presence in space, and as its consequence: to create a unique identification of place.

The goal of this project is the creation of a site-specific technological artwork as an identifiable sculpture for the entrance hall of NYUAD’s Experimental Research Building: An installation that represents NYUAD’s multiple research fields and projects, as well as the collaboration and the knowledge transfer that is ongoing inside this place. The result will give high visibility across campus and the UAE, and could travel as a showcase through NYU’s Global University network. An installation that unites a strong narrative wth a highly innovative and technological character taking in consideration physical properties of space, objects, materials and motion.
